A Deep, Dark, Moody Techno Set
"A Musical Journey Into The Darkness"
This is not the average, run-of-the-mill promotional set for me. I'm normally a very forward thinking DJ and I tend to play mostly brand new releases or unreleased promos. I absolutely love discovering new music, but in this instance, my rule book got tossed aside.
The initial inspiration for this set came to mind one night at about 1am, in the middle of a dark, sweaty, ravey nightclub, the place was packed. Dusky were over half way through an amazing, uplifting set when all of a sudden, they decided to drop some seriously dark and nasty techno. It caught me totally off guard and it was fucking awesome. At that point I instantly decided... "I'm making a dark techno set".
The next day I began the hunt for techno tunes that were deep, dark, moody and atmospheric, but I soon realised, that it wouldn't be easy to compile a collection of really good tunes that met that particular criteria without being forced to add fillers into the mix. Which I never do, so I decided to have patience and wait. I created a folder to collect tracks that I felt met the criteria, and as the weeks & months rolled on, I eventually had enough to shortlist and mix.
In the end I didn't want the mix to sound like a generic current 'Top 10 Techno' Beatport chart. That's why I've been gathering the tunes for over a year or two, therefore a lot of the tracks are not new, although there is a few gems in there, from recent weeks.
I decided to dig deeper, to find tunes that reminded me of the buzz I got that night but I also wanted to select tracks that reflect my style and personality. Not necessarily what I think people might want to hear.
